Building Facilities & Vulnerability Analysis

Corporate and personal liabilities arising from a raft of legislation, Occupational Health and Safety, Director’s duties and due diligence requirements are driving businesses to undertake regular risk assessment and business continuity planning activities. Underpinning this work is the need for building and facilities vulnerability analysis to be undertaken at an early stage of the Risk Assessment and Management Process.

This process requires professional vulnerability analysis.

Our work is aimed at -

  • Building and infrastructure owners and operators of facilities.
  • Assets designated as critical infrastructure.
  • Related businesses.

Vulnerability Analysis Services

Our approach to building and facilities vulnerability analysis incorporates key criteria, including:

  • Applying best practice and internationally regarded standards in the identification of vulnerabilities assessed through Situational Terrorist Opportunity Prevention methodology as developed in the U.K. and U.S.
  • Utilising specialist techniques, such as cluster-modelling and 3D analysis, to identify interdependency between vulnerabilities.
  • Allow the alignment of mitigation solutions.
  • Capacity to undertake vulnerability assessments without reliance on threat assessments.
  • Our approach can be augmented by the inclusion of blast and ballistic/fragmentation analysis that enables a more detailed picture of the overall vulnerability.

This process aims to collect essential information on vulnerabilities providing a clear picture of the most vulnerable and/or critical areas. With this information, owners and operators can appreciate the nature, location and criticality of weaknesses in their situation. Data can be incorporated into follow-on risk, emergency or security planning, and then into business continuity planning processes.

Standards Alignment

Our Vulnerability Analysis approach meets the recommendations of the UK Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure and is consistent with the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency 426 Reference Manual to Mitigate Potential Terrorist Attacks Against Buildings.

Report Delivery

Our approach is flexible and appropriately adapted to a wide range of buildings, commercial and industrial facilities, shopping centres, public gathering spaces and critical infrastructure.

Typically we address issues such as (but not limited to):

  • All areas of the site including its systems and services.
  • Surrounding areas and how they inter-relate to the site being assessed.
  • Vehicle access and parking arrangements.
  • Security and incident history.
  • Previous threat and/or risk assessments.
  • Structural response analysis to validate the likely consequences for various crime and/or terrorism scenarios
  • Specific 3D representations of key vulnerability ‘clusters’.

As a result, vulnerable areas are then detailed in order of potential consequence and type of attack. Where appropriate, this approach can be further augmented by the inclusion of blast and ballistic/fragmentation analysis which enables an even more detailed picture of the overall vulnerabilities to emerge.

Clients receive a concise report highlighting methodology and results, which includes:

  • Vulnerability analysis summary,
  • Crime and/or counter-terrorism risk assessment,
  • Broad mitigation recommendations, that can be developed into further implementation strategies through the Archer Ball alignment partners.

We integrates the offerings of our Alliance Partners to provide a multi –disciplinary group of professionals whose skills are aligned with your business needs, and who will be involved in the development of your vulnerability analysis report and mitigation.
